Michael J. Emerson, age 40, of Curtice, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was born on November 22, 1974 in Fremont, Ohio to Joseph and Yoshiko Emerson. Mike was a 1993 graduate of Clay high school and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. He worked for First Solar for the past year as a maintenance technician and previously for Pitney-Bowes for 10 years.
Mike was a true family man. He was avidly involved with his children’s sporting events and coached all their youth sporting teams including, baseball, basketball, football and soccer. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed boating, cooking, watching Ohio State football, being “Coach Mike” and cheering for the Genoa Comets. He will be sorely missed by his family and many close friends.
Mike is survived by the love of his life, Sue, married for 16 years and together for 26 years; children, Jacob and Olivia; father, Joseph Emerson; sisters, Angela (Kelsey) Harding and Erika (Dave) Illig; mother and father-in-law, Judy and Robert Young; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marcia (Dave) Rossler, Bob (Cindy) Young, Tracy (Ron) Maher and Tom (Nancy) Young. He was a “great” and beloved uncle to 13 nieces and nephews and 2 great-nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Yoshiko Emerson.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 2-8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mike’s family for his children’s college education.
