James John Fizer age 76 of Oregon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. James was born to Wilbur and Lucille (Covill) Fizer on December 23, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a 1965 graduate of Clay High School and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army. Jim started his career in fire service in 1968 with the Oregon Volunteer Fire Department. He became a professional career firefighter with the Ottawa Hills Fire Department before entering the police academy and serving as an Ottawa Hills patrol officer. Jim was a former member of the Oregon City Schools School Board serving during the early 2000s most recently worked at D.R. Ebel.
Jim would talk the paint off a telephone pole. He made friends everywhere he went. He was an avid golfer and Nascar fan and loved Dale Earnhardt Sr. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, boating and most of all spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Cindy; son Adam (Veronica) Fizer; grandchildren Aurora Fizer, Adam Fizer II, Link Fizer, Ledgend Clark, and Alonna Clark; brother Paul Fizer, sister-in-law Angie McCarthy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carrie Lynn Fizer, son James John Fizer, brother Ivan Fizer, and sister Karen Stein.
A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Inurnment with Military and Fire Service Honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Shop with a Cop Program c/o the Oregon Police Department.
