Wilma C. (Bowers) Collier

February 6, 1929 — February 2, 2013

Wilma C. Collier, 83, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Toledo on February 6, 1929 to Albert and Helen (Vankonghet) Bowers and was a graduate of Whitney Vocational School.

Wilma, affectionately known as “Chickie” to many, worked for many years with Bostwick-Braun in the warehouse and also worked at My Little School in the lunchroom.  She had a zest for life and lived to dance. She loved Big Band Music and was a gifted dancer who taught various dances including the Jitterbug to many. She was a loving mother who raised her four daughters with courage and independence.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Coulter-Stall; Dena Standering, Dawn (Ricky) Garrett; Diane Russell; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Smith; brother, Buddy (Marie) Bowers and best friend of 70 years, Jackie Bickle. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Ann Bunke.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Road in Oregon where a Birthday Celebration Service of Chickie’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m.  Burial will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
