Wilbur John “Jack” Horner Jr. age 93 of Walbridge, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Kingston Care Center in Sylvania. Jack was born to Wilbur and Clara (Huss) Horner Sr. on July 9, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. Jack was a natural family man helping to care for his siblings after his mother passed away when he was 10 years old. After high school, Jack served our country in the U.S. Army. He married his sweetheart Marilyn (Moorehead) and together they had 5 children. Marilyn passed away in 2022 and for the last 5 years of her life, he was her caretaker. Jack was a long-standing member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he was a dedicated volunteer at the festival every year. He served as treasurer for Fr. Don Kill a missionary to the Philippines. Jack was a clerk at CSX railroad from the time he returned home from the Army until his retirement. He also served 4 years on the Village of Walbridge Zoning Board, coached little league for 10 years, and was an avid bowler, golfer, and card player. He bowled a 300 game and nearly a 2nd and 3rd only missing by a few pins. In his 70s, he had a 700 series. Jack was a great bowler. He was a proud grandfather and welcomed the opportunity to take care of his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his children Jack (Vicki) Horner, Karen Garn, Stephen (Sue) Horner, and Norman (Debbie) Horner; grandchildren Melissa (Will) Carter, Nick Garn, Aaron Horner, Kacie (Landon) Beirnes, Eric (Adrianna) Schroeder, Kassandra (Justin) Combs, Nathan (Elizabeth) Horner, Brittan Horner and 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother Richard Horner. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher Horner and sister Mary Johnson.
A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4 until 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church 300 Warner St in Walbridge, Ohio on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
