Cal Billingsley, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. He was born on July 26, 1927 in Rush Run, Ohio to Wilbur and Laura Billingsley. Wilbur served in the U.S. Air force, during WWII. He excelled in sports, particularly in baseball. In his younger years he was a AAA pitcher for the St. Louis Browns. He retired as a locomotive engineer from Norfolk Southern after 40+ years of service. Cal was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was known for always catching fish no matter what the condition.
Wilbur is survived by his children: Larry Billingsley, Luke (Sue) Billingsley and Lee Andra Karszewski; grandchildren: Breanne Hitchen, Luke Gage and Erin Billingsley, Matthew and Nicholas Billingsley and his loving companion, Jean Westerfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lana, son, Louis and sisters, Ruth Sickle, Wilma “Sis” McPherson and Betty Kuhn.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio from 12-3 p.m. where services will follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
