Vernon E. “Vern” Woods, 51, of Northwood, OH passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born March 1, 1962 to Charles and Mary (Seale) Woods at Tachikowa, Air Force Base, Japan, where his father was stationed. Vernon was a very curious and fearless child and never afraid to try new things or go on adventures. Vernon served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Genoa American Legion Post 324. He touched many lives through his teaching of Filipino weapon-based martial arts. He enjoyed his family and friends and never met a stranger. Vernon was very intelligent and could talk to everyone on their level. He had an extraordinary sense of humor and could take anything and make it funny without much thought. Vernon loved his family and showed it in all he did.
He is survived by his loving parents; sisters, Marie (Jerry) Mocek, Charla (Mike) Fisher; six nephews that he adored, Christopher (Amanda), Andrew (Jessica), Johnathan (Lorna) Fisher, Joshua (Kristen), Zachary (Meagan), and Christian (Gillian Karhoff) Mocek; four great-nieces and one great-nephew, Mazie, Lexi, Liam Fisher, Guenivere Mocek, and Anabel Fisher.
Friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, OH on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 2 to 7 p.m. where funeral services will begin at 6 p.m. that day. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Gideon Memorial Bible cards program or the Toledo Gospel Rescues Mission.
Vernon’s family takes peace in knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father. We will miss him forever.
