Sam Popkin
Sam Popkin, 93, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg Center. He was born on July 7, 1920 in Toledo to Max and Fannie Popkin. Sam was a graduate of Scott High School and served in the U.S. Army, during WWII. He worked for the Jeep Corporation for 39 ½ years in Inspection/Quality Control, retiring in 1985.
Sam loved to dance, especially ballroom dancing. He was known to dance at any chance he could get. Sam was a member of the U.A.W. Local 12, Maumee Elks and Eagles. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marilyn and visiting his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 49 ½ years, Marilyn; children: Karen (Jedd Wolchok) Popkin, Mark (Rebecca) Popkin and David (Amy) Popkin, his grandchildren: Lukas, Max, Rachel, Sophia and Jamieson and sister-in-law, Phyllis Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister, Yetta Bergman.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Freck Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 2-7 p.m. where military honors will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
