Royce E. Vick

Royce E. Vick, age 79 of Oregon, passed away on August 7th at Genacross of Toledo after a 3-year struggle with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Covid related illnesses.

Royce was born on November 12, 1941, to Elmer and Hazel (Flegle) Vick. He was a life-long resident of Oregon and a 1959 graduate of Clay High School and attended the University of Toledo. He worked for the battery companies Prestolite, GNB, Exide, and retired from J & S Machinery.

Royce enjoyed many years relaxing and fishing at Knecht’s Beach on Lake Erie. He was famous for his margaritas and refused to share his recipe; some think he took it with him. Royce loved to travel, resorts, cruises, senior bus trips, day trips. He was always ready to go anywhere and had a built-in GPS in his brain. He was an avid reader and a master Sudoku puzzle solver, and a loyal Ohio State fan. Royce was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Oregon.

He married Susan Kreamer on November 11, 1967, and she survives along with son, Brian Vick and daughter, Amie (Matt) Hommel; sister, Darla (John) Miller; granddaughters, Brianna Hawkins (Jeremy Haase), Cheyenne Vick (Kyle Hedrick), Carly Hommel (Zo Miller), Ally Hommel; great-grandsons Kaesin and Aiden; nephew, Mark (Kim) Miller; niece Robin (Dan) Combs and many nieces and nephews by marriage and was especially close to nephews, Nathan and Zach Eikost.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents and grandsons Blake Hawkins and Ty Vick.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, August 13, 2021; from 4-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank his ‘gang’ as he called them at Genacross: Dawn, April, Kristina, Carrie, Rachel B., Amanda, and Kelsea for the care and love they showed Royce throughout his struggle.
