Our well-loved father, Ronald Robert Schudel, age 75, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo Center on Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born in Toledo, OH, on August 14, 1947, to Robert Schudel and Elizabeth (Gehr) Schudel. Ronald (Ron) leaves behind his children, Sheri (Bill) Caldwell and Ronni (Joe) Zona; his grandchildren, Nora Zona and Sophie Zona; his brother Gary Schudel; and his sister, Kathy (Charles) Rowell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles. He attended Garfield Elementary School and later graduated from Waite High School Class of 1965. Ron worked for many years for the railroad and the City of Toledo Water Department. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ron was a long-time friend of Bill W. and a member of East Side 12 and 12. He also volunteered his time at St. Charles Hospital. Ron loved gardening and sharing his vegetables and herbs with friends and family. He grew the hottest peppers available for his homemade salsa. He was famous for his Bulgarian tomatoes grown from seeds he saved every year. Lucky recipients of his plants and tomatoes claim they are the best they’ve ever tasted. He was an avid motorcycle fan in his young and crazy years. Ron was a passionate sports fan, along with Sheri and Bill Caldwell. His personal favorite teams were Ohio State, the Detroit Tigers, and the Red Wings. Ron’s family would like to thank his many friends and Hospice Northwest Ohio Toledo Center for all their care and support.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with the memorial service to be held at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the General Services Office in lieu of flowers.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen .
