Robert E. Symington, 66, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born on July 21, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Esther Symington. Robert served in the U.S. Army, during Vietnam in the 1st Air Cavalry devotion in several different positions. He worked as a truck driver for 17 years and was a member of the Northwood V.F.W. Andrus Post #2984. Robert will always be remembered for his love of fishing, shooting pool and being a card shark, especially with Euchre.
He is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Barbara; children, Bobbi (John) Gercak, Michele Wharry, Christine (Becky) Hans, Lisa Hans and Edward Hans; grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary and Miranda; siblings, Gloria (Larry) Powell, Janet Degeyter, Pamela (Wayne) Sumner, Brenda Sherwood and Bradley (Mary) Symington, sister-in-law, Debbie Symington and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Symington; son-in-law, Paul Wharry.
A memorial gathering will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 12-2 where a veteran’s honors ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Northwood V.F.W. Andrus Post # 2984 or the Honor Flight Program.
