Robert J. Lynn Sr., age 72, of Oregon, formerly of Brown Rd. passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 peacefully at home. Bob was born to Frank and Dorothy (Whalen) Lynn, September 6, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Bob had a personality that was friendly, outgoing and full of humor. Never one to back down from any conversation, Bob had the unique ability to express his opinion about any issue under the sun, especially those related to politics and labor unions.
He met the love of his life, Geraldine Jurski, at Woodward High School in1956. Once a class skipper, after he met Gerry, he no longer had any excuses not to attend school. They married on June 3, 1961, and went on to have a family of six children.
Bob had several passions, politics, the Democratic Party, polka music and card playing. Ever the euchre enthusiast, Bob never passed up the chance to call trump and make an honest attempt to win a hand out of nothing.
He was a member of UA Local 50 Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanic for 49 years where he served as Business Agent for 3 years. He also was a founding member of the Local 50 Credit Union. Bob served many years as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman, along with dedicated service to many other organizations such as Toledo Area Jobs with Justice, NWO Building Trades, Old Newsboys, International Music Association and the Toledo Area Polka Society. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, participating in Joy Club, church dinners and festivals
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Geraldine “Gerry” (Jurski);sons, Robert (Barbara) Lynn Jr. and Thomas (Monica) Lynn; daughters, Sandra(Robert) Earl, Cynthia (Joseph) Zalewski, Michele (Frederick) Garcia and Sherrie (Wesley) Meinerding; grandchildren, Rebecca, Robert III, Benjamin, Jacob and Timothy Lynn, Holly, Daniel and Brian Earl, Aaron and Kirsten Zalewski, and Hannah, Elissa and Joshua Garcia; brother, Frank R. Lynn and sister, Shirley (Leroy) Tupman. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Lynn.
Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Sunday from 2-8 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Ignatius Building Fund or the Cherry Street Mission.
