Rita C. Boes, 96, of Pemberville and formerly of Northwood, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Otterbein-Portage Valley. She was born in Toledo on April 26, 1919 to William and Marie (Maier) Wasserman and was the eldest of 12 children. Even at a young age, Rita had a giving spirit, helping raise her siblings and always helping others. She was a graduate of Lake High School and worked various jobs including a clerk for the federal government, Hirzel canning and the U.S. Postal Service. She volunteered with the Helping Hands of St. Louis, the voting polls and the Red Cross donating blood even in her later years. She was a 4H advisor for 45 years and will be remembered fondly for her canning and baking pies. Being the first one in her family to own a camera, she enjoyed taking family pictures and getting together with family and friends to play Bunco.
She is survived by her children, Corky Becker, William (Helen) Boes and David (Terri) Boes; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Dippman, Elsie Dippman, Leo Wasserman, Viola Gahler, Angela Dunn, Jane Cajka, Anna Mae Sattler and Verna Konesky. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip Boes, daughter, Marlene Kott; brothers, Donald and Leonard Wasserman and sister, Luella Fairchild.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 2 - 8 p.m. where the Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with visitation to begin one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor’s choice.
