Richard "Dick" Welty

Richard H. Welty, age 81, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo Center.  He was born on February 10, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to Kenneth and Evelyn (Betz) Welty.  Dick was a 1960 graduate of DeVilbiss High School where he played football as a guard on their championship season.  Dick served in the United States Air Force before starting his career with Toledo Edison.  He retired from the Instrument and Control Department after 30 years of service.

Dick stayed busy after retiring.  He was retired for one month before going back to work, this time for Medical College of Ohio.  He also worked at Maumee Schools and Bay Park Hospital over the years.  Dick was very proud to be awarded employee of the year while he worked at Bay Park Hospital.  He also enjoyed fixing cars for his family and friends, which he learned in his younger years as a racer.  Dick could figure out how to fix just about anything you brought to him.  He was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan.  He will be dearly missed.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan Welty; daughters, Teresa (Deacon Michael) Swanson, and Chrissy (Steve) Finch; grandchildren, Ben (Stephanie) Swanson, Daniel Swanson, Nolan Finch, Aly Finch, and Destiny Welty; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, and Landon Swanson; and his sister, Sharon (Don) Perry.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Ken Welty.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon from 2-5:00 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
