Richard “Bear” Smalley
Richard K. Smalley, 77, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on May 8, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to James and Katherine Smalley. Richard served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. He retired from Rieter Automotive in 2002 after 20 years of service as a fabricator. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sally Smalley; children: Chris (Wendy), LuAnn and Cathy Smalley; grandchildren: Dustin Pollick and Adam Frees; siblings, Phyllis Phillips, Ralph (Patty) Palm and Bruce Palm and many nieces, nephews and extended family as well as his canine companion, Titan. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at North Oregon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
