Richard Dewayne Dempsey

February 9, 1932 — March 20, 2015

Richard Dempsey, 83, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 in Ft. Myer, Florida. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on February 9, 1932 to Joseph W. and Nina M. Dempsey. Richard retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years of service during the Korean and Vietnam wars, as a Staff Sargent. He then went to work for North American Van Lines and Allied for 20 years until retiring to enjoy more time with his family. Richard enjoyed trips around the country and was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Hancock Senior Center, V.F.W. post # 4906, Lou Diamond Detachment Marine Corps League. He was a diehard Devil Dog through and through, but his family was his reason for being. Those that were lucky enough to have known him were truly blessed.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, or 56 years, Marjorie Dempsey; son, Joseph (Sheila) Dempsey; grandchildren, Matthew Paseff, Ricky Dempsey and Alex Dempsey; siblings, Joseph W. Dempsey and Betty Cichocki; brother-in-law Robert (Pat) Schoenrock and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Sandra and Scott Dempsey and siblings, Virginia Kajawa, Jack Dempsey and Joanne Donaho.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015. There will be a Marine Corp service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Ignatius Building Fund.
