Ralph J. Vogelpohl

Ralph J. Vogelpohl, age 98, of Curtice, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his home he and his father “Carl” built in 1950.  He was born on December 24, 1923 in Curtice, Ohio to Carl and Myrtle Vogelpohl.  Ralph was a 1941 graduate of Genoa High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marines.  Ralph was stationed in the South Pacific, during WWII.  After the war, Ralph married his wife Velma on July 26, 1945.  He worked for Standard Oil for 42 years, retiring in 1982.  In his spare time, Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.  He was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and a member of Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537.

Ralph is survived by his children:  John (Leslie Bondy) Vogelpohl, Marjorie (Larry) DeVerna; grandchildren:  Eric (Holly Minsel) Vogelpohl, Regina Lassiter, Daniel DeVerna, Joseph (Megan Gainey) DeVerna and Jason (Heidi Webb) DeVerna; 14 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma (Niner) Vogelpohl; and siblings, Roland Vogelpohl, Fredrick Vogelpohl, Audrey Wolf, Marion Vogelpohl. Carol St. John, and Leonard Vogelpohl.

Friends and family may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon, OH from 2-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Helping Hands of St. Louis.
