Pericles “Perry” Grivanos, age 76 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 22nd at Lutheran Home of Toledo. Perry was born December 5, 1937 to Savva and Katherine (Kyriakoudis) Grivanou in NeaTenedos, Greece. He arrived at Ellis Island in 1953 at the age of 16 after an 18 day boat voyage. His travels brought him to Toledo, Ohio. He attended Woodward High School where he played trumpet in the band. Starting from humble beginnings, he met and married his wife Rita Baker of Toledo and later moved to Oregon, Ohio. With great pride, Perry became an American citizen in 1965. Perry worked for Seaway Warehouses for over twenty years. He retired from his own construction company.
Perry is survived by his devoted wife, Rita of 57 years; daughter, Kathy (Greg) Vermett; sons, Perry Grivanos and Tim Grivanos; daughter-in-law, Sue (Phillip) Grivanos; grandchildren, Jason and Kyle Coutcher, Casey Vermett, Pericles (Tiger), Spencer, Alex, Cori, and Megan Grivanos; great-granddaughter, Kennedi Coutcher; sisters, Liberty (Gust) Elmer and Athanasia (George, Grivanou) Kantaras and many loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Perry was preceded in death by his parents and his son Phillip.
Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 South Wynn Road in Oregon where the Trisagion Service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Freck Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
