What do we want the world, strangers, and friends to know about our mother?

Well, lets start at the beginning. She was first born to George and Adeline Bratton on June 13, 1931. She had two wonderful sisters, Mary Kay (her best friend) and Suzanne (the apple of her eye). Her father passed away when she was a young woman and her mother went on to marry our grandpa, Stanley Minnich. Mom married our father, Thomas Landrum and they had six children, Jerry, Joan, Jeff, Jim, Jennifer, and John – her 6 J’s. They divorced and she raised us alone. Now mind you, this was not an easy task, but she loved us unconditionally and never gave up on any of us.

She worked all of her life, from the Bell Co. making life-long friends to Walt Disney World for many years before returning to Toledo. She retired from TARTA and it was during those years that she met her partner-in-crime and life, Fred Butler. She and Fred spent many happy years together until he passed last spring, she said at his memorial service that “she would get even with him one day for going first!” I’m sure he is getting an earful now.

What is her legacy? She left behind a small army, not only the six of us and our spouses, but 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and counting! She has countless friends and another whole family at Oak Leaf Village. She not only worked there after retiring but lived there happily with the most loving staff and friendly residents after her Fred passed away.

Our mother was kind and sincere to everyone she ever met and had a smile for every stranger. She loved her family fiercely and taught us to do the same. We will survive life’s challenges in her tiny shadow. She was the heart of her family and we know she is smiling down on us from heaven. We will try to make you proud. Now go sing and dance with the angels! We love you – Your 6 J’s

Friends and family are welcome to Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Road in Oregon on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made directly to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
