Nicole (Nikki) Marie Hendrix-Miller passed on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at St. Charles
Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. Nicole was born to Charles and Joanne (Cousino) Hendrix on December 6, 1972. Nicole lived most of her abbreviated life in Toledo attending Rosary Cathedral Grade School and graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1991. Following high school, Nicole worked with developmentally challenged adults at Lott Industries and the Lucas County MRDD Board for fourteen (14) years. Having mastered sign language, she was known to have a special talent in being able to reach these challenged adults. In fact, after she left this work, she stayed in touch with several of her special friends.
Nikki often recalled favorably the time she spent with Grandpa Leo riding horses out at
his stable. She became an ardent Red Wings fan, following the team through its ups and downs and occasionally attending games in Detroit. Her family and friends will remember Nikki’s fierce independence and determination to make her own way in life. Perhaps with a premonition that her time on this Earth would be shortened or perhaps having become convinced that, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” (J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), Nikki several years ago uprooted her life to explore a larger world and encounter different experiences. Though she took a different path, she never estranged herself from her family nor lost her quick smile, her laugh or her sense of humor.
Her father, Chuck Hendrix, her step-father, John Hurley, and her brother, Daniel Hendrix, preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved children, Kayleigh Jo Miller (age 15) and Nathaniel Charles Kern (age 4); her mother Joanne Cousino; her “dad” Denes J. Cousino; brothers, David and Mark Hendrix; step brothers and sisters: Angela, Lillian, Laura, David, Andy, Mike, Kelly, Jason and Jessica and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will occur on Friday, May 25th from the hours of 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Freck
Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 26th beginning at the hour of 11 a.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nicole Miller Children’s Fund to help defray the costs of Kayleigh’s and Nate’s college expenses or donations are suggested to the Cedar Creek Church in the name of Nikki.
