Michael “Mike” G. DeShetler, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, November 16, 2024, surrounded by love. Mike was born to Robert L., Sr. and Willa Mae (Hutchinson) DeShetler on February 12th, 1962. He grew up in a close-knit neighborhood in east Toledo, the “O5-ers”, where he spent time fishing in the Maumee River, skating on Hecklinger Pond, and camping at Sunny’s Campground. In 1980, Mike graduated from Waite High School. In the mid-90’s, he joined his father and brothers building Jeeps, a career he was proud to have until he retired in 2018. Mike was a lifelong member of the Fort Industry Masonic Lodge #0144. His hobbies included Chess, Euchre, golf, fishing, walking in Sidecut Metropark, and watching Ohio State football.

Mike was warm-hearted and giving. His lively personality shone through to everyone he met. Even when walking was a struggle, Mike made a point to hold the door for others, and he always kept a cooler stocked with water and Gatorade for the mailman. He was the definition of a family man and loved them with all his heart.

Mike is survived by his children, Steven (Rebecca) Byrd, Kerri (Jacob) Whiteman, Laura DeShetler, and Michael DeShetler Jr.; step-daughter, Reyna Hochron; grandchildren, Josh (Leighann) Syzmanski, Jacob Bilger, Elyza Byrd, Sophie O’Nail, Ava Hochron, and Levi Hochron, great-grandchildren; Scout, Baya, Athena, Rowan, and Calliope Syzmanski, sister Beverly Nesbitt, sister-in-law Ruthie DeShetler, nieces, nephews, and close friends Don Sayers, Bud and Eva Pratt and the Shutters family. He was preceded in death by his infant son Gregory DeShetler, grandson Matthew Byrd, and brothers Ronnie Hottman and Robert DeShetler.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 2 until 8 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Mike will be dressed in his Ohio State gear so please feel free to join him. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Metroparks Toledo.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice for being a rock in the storm to Mike and the family at the end of his life. Your love and guidance will never be forgotten.
