Matthew J. (Matt) Lewczynski, 52, lost his three year battle with throat cancer on March 11, 2012, with his family by his side in his home in Oregon, OH. Matt was born in Toledo, Ohio May 8, 1959 the first of five children to Richard and Nancy Lewczynski. He was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School ‘77 and went on to pursue an education in engineering at Bowling Green State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in ‘82. During his senior year in college, Matt participated in an internship program for Toledo Edison at the Davis Besse nuclear power plant. Shortly after graduation, he was offered a full-time position and continued to work at Davis Besse for nearly 30 years in various positions. He was recognized for his dedication, strong work ethic and expertise in his field; and was promoted several times throughout his career.
Matt is survived by his wife, Bertha of 19 years; his mother Nancy Lewczynski (DeMars); his children Ryan (Danielle), Slidell, LA; Nicole (Blaine), Houston, TX; and Roxanne, Oregon, OH; two granddaughters Carli & Hannah Lewczynski, Slidell, LA; his sisters Julie Istler (Jim and two children Katie and Daniel), Toledo, OH, and Mary Conley, Oregon, OH; and his two brothers Tom Lewczynski (Denise and three children Ian, Jill and Kelsey), Brownstown, MI, and Mike Lewczynski, Toledo, OH.  He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. (Lefty) Lewczynski.
Matt took pleasure in the simple things in life. He relished trips to Cedar Point to ride the roller coasters; was an avid fan of classic rock and sports; and enjoyed staying fit and caring for others. He participated in several bowling leagues over the years, was active in the Catholic War Veterans association, and was a softball player for the Edison team. He had a great sense of humor and a strong will to fight his illness to the very end. He will be missed by his family and friends.
