MARY J. WOODS

Mrs. Mary J. (Seale) Woods, the beloved wife of Charles E. and the sweet mother of Marie Mocek, Charla Fisher and Vernon Woods (deceased), went to meet her heavenly father on May 8, 2014, after a long illness. Mary was born to Evory and Ethel Seale on October 21, 1938, in Wilsonville, Alabama.  She was raised in Columbiana, Alabama. Her mother, Ethel, died when Mary was very Young. Her father later married Gladys Coker whom Mary knew as her loving mother.

Mary was first and foremost a faithful servant of Our Lord and Savior, sharing her strong faith through her kindness, her famous hospitality, and working through the years as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and an advocate for the missions.  Mary and Charles spent the first 16 years of their marriage moving often as Charles was a part of the United States Air Force for 20 years.  She liked being a military wife and enjoyed the traveling.  Many hours were spent recounting the good times they had, the friends they made, and the fact that their children were all born in different places (Marquette, MI; Tachikawa, Japan; Clovis, NM).

Mary was a talented seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes, including her daughter, Marie’s wedding dress.  Stitching was one of her many accomplishments and she was expert in the areas of crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, tatting, and needlepoint and her work hangs on the walls of her home and her children’s homes. One of her greatest hobbies was quilting, and she made many beautiful quilts, some of which won ribbons at the Pemberville Fair and at Sauder’s Museum.  She was a member of a quilting club and for many years quilted weekly with a group of friends.  She quilted a beautiful quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.  Mary worked at several jobs throughout the years, mostly performing secretarial work.  Her longest place of employment was the American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio.  She enjoyed many things, but what she loved the most was her family.

In addition to her loving son, Vernon Woods, she was preceded in death by her mothers, Ethel and Gladys, her father, Evory, her sister, Betty Jo, her brothers, Howard, Jimmy, and Billy; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lora and Harry Woods.  She is survived by her husband Charles; her daughters Marie (Jerry) Mocek and Charla (Mike) Fisher; her sister Frances Seale; sister and bother in law, Ruby and David Hill; brother and sister in law, Bobby and Dixie Woods; grandsons Christopher (Amanda) Fisher, Joshua (Kristen) Mocek, Andrew (Jessica) Fisher, Zachary (Meagan) Mocek, Johnathon (Lorna) Fisher, Christian (Gillian Karhoff-Schumaker) Mocek; her great-grandchildren Mazie Fisher, Lexi Fisher, Liam Fisher; Guinevere Mocek , Joshua Charles Mocek II; Anabel Fisher, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Mary was loved by all who knew her and her family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice , her many caregivers, and the staff of  St. Charles Hospital for all the loving care and treatment she has received the last 2 years.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 4-8 pm. Visitation will continue after 11 a.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Oregon, where the funeral service will begin at noon. Private burial will be at Allen Township Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Gideon’s International Card Program or the Toledo Rescue Mission.
