Mary "Cookie" Gillespie

Mary Catherine “Cookie” (Zunk) Grodi Gillespie passed away on Sunday morning, December 5, 2021 at the Arbors of Oregon after a prolonged illness.  Mary was the biological child of Maxine (Monette) Nichols Hollis and Lavern Nichols and the adopted daughter of Helmuth and Ruth Zunk.  She was twice widowed (Joseph Grodi and Harold Gillespie).  Raised in Oregon and a graduate of Clay High School, she was a lifetime Toledo-area resident.  She grew up in St. John’s Lutheran Church and was very active in Lutheran Church of Our Savior in a variety of church ministries.   She worked for over 25 years at Co-Bar Manufacturing as an Office Manager.

She is survived by daughters Ruth Ann Grodi, Joann (George) Riffe, and Mary Ann (Ray) Grodi; grandchildren Jeremy (Hannah) Riffe, David (Becki) Riffe, and Paul Grodi; seven great grandchildren; siblings David (Judy) Hollis (Florence, AL) and Lanny Hollis (El Paso, TX); sister-in-law Janet (James/Bud) Zunk (Oregon); and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. where services will be held at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
