Marilyn Jean (Benson) Lau

Marilyn Jean Lau, 84, of Curtice, Ohio passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family and hospice care.  She was born on June 18, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to William Charles and Helena Francis (Dantzer) Benson.  Marilyn was a 1954 graduate of Notre Dame Academy.  She married Loren Larry Lau and together they spent many happy years raising their family.  Always caring for others, she will be remembered for her constant love and assistance to her children.  She would readily be available for them with their school and religious education assignments, always transporting them to scouting, sports, YMCA programs, and music lessons, while all along providing emotional support with her incredible strength given to all of her family.  She was a nurse for many years at St. Charles Hospital as well as a private duty nurse.  She loved to take her children on day trips throughout Ohio; the Blue Hole, Indian Serpent Mounds, Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum, Seneca Caverns, Ohio State Fair and Canada for picnics.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Helen Benson; her sisters, Kathleen, Margie (Davo) and Janet (Knott).  She is survived by her husband, Loren; brother Roland Benson (Joanne); brother-in-law John Knott; her ten children, James Lau (Cindy), Thomas Lau (Lisa), Susan Dreier (Karl), Robert Lau, Theresa Berger (Kenneth), Joseph Lau (Krista), Jeanne VanDenDoleweert (Gary), Daniel Lau, Christopher Lau (Diane deceased), Michael Lau (Andrea); grandchildren Jason (deceased), Matthew, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Stephan, Shawn, Melissa, Kent, Trevor, Logan, Ryan and Kailani and great-grandchildren Olivia, Landon, Grayson and Callan.

Special thanks to the overall care provided by St. Charles Hospital, Genoa Care Center, Ohio Living H&H Hospice, and most especially her daughter Susan for her perpetual love and care in her home.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with closing prayers recited at 10:15 a.m.  The funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Oregon, OH.  Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Marilyn’s name may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Bono, OH.
