MARGARET MARIE “MAGGIE” (NIEMEYER)  HARTFORD

Margaret Hartford, 88, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Mercy- St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo. She was born March 3, 1926 to the late Edward and Lillian (Burton) Niemeyer and married her childhood sweetheart, Carl Hartford on her 18th birthday.

During WWII, she joined the Rosie the Riveter movement, working as an assistant mechanic on B-29 airplanes at Clovis New Mexico AFB. After the war, she continued working at several jobs including Hostess Bakery, ACE Hardware Warehouse and St. Charles Hospital in the Supply Department where she retired from. Maggie fulfilled her lifelong dream vacation three months ago, visiting Ireland and placing her toes in Irish soil. She was very active tending to her garden especially her tomatoes and attended the senior water aerobics at the YMCA.

Margaret is survived by her children, Janet (Al) Adam of Curtice, Diane Sue Maher of California, Gary (Kim) Hartford of Kentucky and Debbie (Tom) Roe of Millbury; grandchildren, Jon Adam, Paul (Sandy) Adam, Christie (Josh) Ridgely, Michael (Rachel) Maher, Steven (Michelle) Maher, Jessica (Lee) Langley, Tami Roe, Rebecca Roe, Cynthia (Michael) Zeiler and Amanda (Will) Cook; 13 great-grandchildren and sister, Betty Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband; brother Burton Niemeyer and sisters, Dorothy Snider and Gertrude Sipe.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Monday at Christ United Methodist Church where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Allen Twp Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave, Oregon, Ohio, 43616.
