Margaret M. (Katona) Balasz

June 26, 1929 — August 4, 2017

Margaret M. Balasz, 88, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Orchard Villa Nursing Home.  She was born on June 26, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Eli and Mary (Orosz) Katona.  Margaret was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and worked as bookkeeper for Soldier Brothers Trucking.  She also worked at Little Sisters of the Poor-Sacred Heart Home as a nurse’s aid and in the dietary department for over 20 years.

Margaret will be fondly remembered for her positive attitude and her thankfulness.  She loved cooking Hungarian food for her family and friends, gardening, dancing, crocheting and going to the Toledo Symphony.  Margaret was known by her family as a “hamburger connoisseur” who also loved eating fair food.  She was an avid sports fan, enjoying U.T. Football, Toledo Mud Hens, Toledo Walleye and NASCAR.  She will be dearly missed by her family.

Margaret is survived by her loving children:  Nicholas Balasz, Sophia (Jim Kralik) Balasz, Rose (Bob) Stewart, Florence (Joel) Steinmetz and Mary (Brian) Grosse; grandchildren, Jacob (Ashley) Stewart, Zachary Stewart, and Matthew Grosse; sister, Mary Horvath; son-in-law, Jeff Miller along with many nieces and nephews and her dog, Rowdy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nicholas; daughter, Margaret Miller; brother, Eli Katona; special niece, Florence Becker and her K-9 companion, Spike.

Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel Wynn at Pickle Rd. in Oregon, OH. (419) 693-9304 on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.  Funeral services will begin on Saturday in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial services held in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Little Sisters of the Poor or St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
