Marco Antonio Hernandez-Gaona

Marco Antonio Hernandez Gaona passed away on May 6, 2024 and took his last breaths surrounded by his loving family. Marco was the patriarch of his family and his unexpected loss has left his loved ones devastated.

Marco was born in Villa Jimenez Michoacan, Mexico on September 22, 1959. It was there he met the love of his life, Magdalena. The two were married on December 29, 1979. Marco and Magdalena had six children and ten grandchildren together. They celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary last December. They also ran their own business in Toledo, Ohio called “La Mexicana” where Marco was known for his delicious carnitas, menudo, and barbacoa.

Marco had a contagious laugh and was known for often playfully teasing his kids and grandkids to get everyone laughing together. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and traveling to Mexico to visit his parents and tend to his other home. He recently spoke often about retiring and spending more time in his peaceful home in Mexico. Marco was also known for his sweet tooth; you could usually spot him sneaking some candy for himself after the last child broke open the pinata at family events. After dinner, he was the 1st to ask, “ok what’s for dessert?

Marco will be remembered by all as a very hard worker his entire life. He worked very hard to provide a better life for his children and grandchildren. Even though our hearts break with grief, we pray that he now has the peace and rest that he was looking forward to in retirement.

Marco is survived by his wife Magdalena Hernandez; father Jose Hernandez Delgado; siblings Juan Jose Hernandez, Anna Maria Hernandez, Mirella Hernandez, Alma Delia Hernandez, Leticia Hernandez; children Magdalena (Eddie) Selvera, Juan (Jennifer) Hernandez, Jose (Jessica) Hernandez, Sandra (Juan) Sanchez, and Marco Jr. Hernandez; grandchildren Daniel Selvera, Damian Selvera, Jose Angel Selvera, Julian Selvera, Gulianna Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Annalisa Hernandez, Gabriela Sanchez, Manuel Hernandez, and Yadhira Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his daughter Bertha Hernandez, mother Maria Santos Gaona, father and mother-in-law Francisco and Bertha Sagrero.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio on May 13, 2024 from 10 until 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.

We will always carry your memory with us. Thank you for raising children with humble caring hearts like yours. Above all else we hope you rest in peace  “Don”, you’ve earned your rest and we will watch over “Mole”.
