Lyle "Jack" J. Nissen

February 15, 1937 — February 4, 2016

Lyle J. " Jack" Nissen Jr., 78, of Oregon, OH passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving companion and children. He was born in Genoa, OH on February 15, 1937 to Lyle and Christine (Padgett) Nissen. Jack graduated from Clay High School in 1955.  Following graduation he served in the military and went on to receive college degrees from B.G.S.U. and U.T. Jack was a teacher, coach and principal for various institutions retiring after 18 years from Fassett Junior High School. He continued working, part-time, at B.G.S.U. and was the Board President for Meadow Choice Community School.

Jack was a member of the seasonal amateur champion softball and basketball teams and played competitive basketball until the age of 50. He liked to water and snow ski. Jack attended First St. John Lutheran Church. He touched many lives and they are richer for it.

Jack is survived by his children, Connie (Don) Rasmussen and Tim (Tammie) Nissen; grandchildren, Brittany, Josh, Jeremy, Jordan, Derek, Conner and Dylan; special loving and best friend of 18 years, Ruth Cummerow; Ruth’s children, Dave Cummerow and Brian (Jodi) Cummerow; Ruth’s grandchildren, Colby (Matt), Cort, Collin, Jordan and McKenna; her great-granddaughter, Elaina; as well as many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Nissen.

Jack’s family will receive guests at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate his life. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family would like memorial contributions to be made to the “Jack Nissen Memorial Scholarship Fund” through Clay High School.

“My children, grandchildren and loving companion were a true blessing to me. I lived a blessed life and each of them contributed to it. I love each of you.”
