LUKE J. MURPHY, JR.
Luke J. Murphy, Jr., 78, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. He was born in Baltimore, MD on February 4, 1936 to Luke J. and Mildred (Stephens) Murphy, Sr. and married Arjetta “Bonnie” Taylor on June 24, 1963. Luke’s passion with working with ships started at age 16 and continued for over 40 years with him working as a pipefitter with Toledo Shipyard. He retired in 2004 as Superintendent of the shipyard. In his spare time, Luke enjoyed attending auctions and refurbishing cars bought at auctions and reselling them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie; children, Cindy (Bill) Uckele, Luke J. (Patty) Murphy, III, Jackie Murphy, Christina (Tom) Fisher and Dennis Murphy; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Agnes Sands; friends, Dan Roughton and Angela Sradeja and many dear nieces and nephews. Luke was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick Murphy and siblings, Mary, Thomas, Raymond and Mike.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 2-8 pm. with a Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Saturday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will be at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Promedica Ebeid Hospice.
