L. J. Mahr “Butch” of Oregon, Ohio and formerly of Newbury, Berkshire, England passed away at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from injuries sustained in a car accident.  Butch was 61 years old.  He was born at Riverside Hospital, Toledo, Ohio to Leslie John Mahr and Beverly Kilburn on January 30, 1951.  Butch graduated from Clay High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1976.  While stationed in England, Butch met and married Theresa A. Clarkson.
Upon returning to the Toledo area in 1976, Butch proceeded to follow in both of his grandfathers’ musical paths.  Butch sang and played guitar in numerous bands in the Toledo and Sandusky areas.  He was an active member of the United States Pedal Steel Guitar Association and was honored to perform for several years as vocalist for both the British and Irish Steel Guitar Festivals where he shared the stage with many friends and some of his musical idols.  His biggest thrill was singing with Gerry Hogan and Hogans Heros with the great Albert Lee on guitar.
Butch was also unabashedly proud of his wife, Terry and would often boast of her gardening abilities and many athletic achievements.  They enjoyed travelling together extensively both in the U.S. and abroad.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Terry; father, Leslie and step-mother, Sole Mahr, step-father, John (Jake) Halleron, brothers, Michael (Debra) Mahr, and Brian Mahr; sisters, Deborah (Robert) Merritt, Lisa (Nick Daly) Bland and Patricia Stevens; sister-in-law, Trish (Al) Schoenfelder; step-brother, Michael (Meagan) Halleron; step-sister, Bridget (Larry) Seeman; nieces, Elizabeth, Kim and Brittany; nephews, Michael, Jason, Matt and Tommy and extended family members.  Butch was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leslie A. and Mary Mahr and Daniel B. and Virginia Kilburn; mother-in-law, Gwendoline Clarkson and his fantastic mother, Beverly J. Halleron.
