Kenneth Richard Welty, age 51, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday morning, August 5, 2021, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Ken was born September 9, 1969, in Toledo, Ohio, to Richard “Dick” Welty and Susan “Sue” Davis Welty. He graduated from Clay High School in 1987 and received his Associate Degree from Owens Community College. In 2001, Ken moved to Fayette County, Tennessee and was employed as the General Manager at Genlabs in Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Ken was of Christian faith and was proud of defeating cancer four times. He would do anything for anyone and never wanted to burden anyone with his own struggles. Ken was a member of the Memphis Challenger Car Club and Bayside Memphis. He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast who built custom choppers and cars. He also enjoyed shooting guns with his family.

Ken is survived by his fiancée, Theresa Glidden (Oakland, TN); his daughter, Destiny Welty (Collierville, TN); his parents, Dick and Sue Welty; his sisters, Teresa (Mike) Swanson and Chrissy (Steve) Finch; his nephews, Ben (Stephanie) Swanson, Daniel Swanson, Nolan Finch; his niece, Aly Finch; his great-niece Mady Swanson; his great-nephew, Landon Swanson; and his two fur-babies, Moscato and Mojito. Ken also leaves behind his bonus family in Washington State of two daughters, four grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, Ohio on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm with Pastor Sherry Schermbeck officiating. The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or American Cancer Society, 5101 Wheelis Center Drive, Suite 100 in Memphis, TN 38117. The family wishes to thank everyone for all the love, prayers and positive thoughts for Ken and his family throughout his health battles. A special thank you to his work family at Genlabs for being an amazing support for Ken these past seven years.
