Kenneth Dale Steedman Sr.

Kenneth D. Steedman Sr., 76, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully at Hospice of NW Ohio surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He fought a long battle of heart issues and lung cancer since February. Kenny served in the U.S. Army and the Reserves with an honorable discharge. He was in the first graduating class of Ross-Enright Police Academy and retired as an Oregon Police Officer and detective after 25 years, beginning his career as a patrolman and ending as a detective. He then worked for various florists as a delivery person, a job he enjoyed in his retirement because he said “people were always glad to see him where as they didn’t always see him as police officer”.

Kenny enjoyed many years of off-duty, projecting at Oregon Auditorium and Cardinal Stritch for Bingo, making many friends. He was a member of the American Legion post 334 and the Police Retirees Group. Kenny traveled with his wife for many years to Florida, enjoyed pool parties with friends and families and his beloved dogs which his current love is his Yorkie, Megan. Kenny’s prize was his loving wife of 47 years, Darlene, of whom he cared and loved very much. His only worries were for her care.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; sons, Tim, Chuck (Michelle), Randy, Jeff and Kenny, Jr.; daughters, Debbie (Jim) and Denise; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and brothers, Jim and Arnie. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irene; brother, Bob and grandson, Bradley.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 25, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. with full military honors at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of NW Ohio. The family wishes to thank Shirley and Sandi for support and meals throughout the months, Dr. Maludy and all the St. Vincent’s Heart Center staff, and Hospice of NW Ohio, Perrysburg.
