Karl John Gadus

Karl John Gadus, 75, of Millbury, Ohio went to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and passed away with his family at his side on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Genoa Care Center.  He was born on April 16, 1939 in Rossford, Ohio to John and Mary Gadus.  Karl attended Clay High School and graduated in 1958.  He played baseball and earned 3 varsity letters while producing a record of 11 wins and 1 loss on the pitcher’s mound.  Karl received an offer from the Detroit Tigers and one of his highlights was pitching batting practice to Hank Aaron while working out for the Braves.

Karl married Janice St. John in 1960 and they were married for 54 years.  Together they have 5 children.  He was an avid golfer and was a marshal at Bedford Hills Golf Course.  Karl enjoyed duck hunting and walleye fishing and operated the Split Shot charter boat service from the mid 80’s until the mid 90’s.  Karl taught his boys to hunt and fish and spent many days with them in the duck blind or chasing walleyes on Lake Erie.  He manufactured his own fishing lures branded as the split shot weight forward spinner.  Karl worked at Walbridge Coatings, retiring in 2001.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; children:  Timothy (Jan) Gadus, Kelly (Laurie) Gadus, Marianne (Michael) Kelly and Brian (Diane) Gadus; 28 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and sisters, Loretta Gadus and Bernadette (Tom) Sox.  Karl was preceded in death by his parents and son, John Gadus.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 4-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be private for the family.  Burial will be held at Lake Township Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Genoa Retirement Village.
