Joyce Ann Burkhart

Joyce Ann Burkhart, 81, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.  She was born in Ottawa, Ohio to Walter and Marcella (Weis) Niese on March 30, 1939.  On October 4, 1958 she married the love of her life, Franklin Burkhart.  Together, Frank and Joyce celebrated 54 years of marriage. Joyce went back to school after raising her family to become an LPN.  She worked for 22 years at the former Hillcrest Nursing Home in Waterville, Ohio.  Joyce was an active parishioner at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge, Ohio as a greeter, CHRP and the Threads ministry. After her retirement, Frank and Joyce spent their summers at Deep Lake in Brooklyn, Michigan and winters in Mulberry, Florida.  They finally decided to settle down in Oregon, Ohio.

Joyce leaves behind her children, Deborah (Bryan) Gladieux, Gregory (Michelle) Burkhart, and Kimberly (David) Skoczyn; her grandchildren, Bethany Gladieux, Kristin (Aaron) Mills, David II (Alexis) Skoczyn, Bryanna (Chris) Knott, Katelyn (Zachary) Skoczyn, Mariah (Eric) Burkhart, and Jerod (Katie) Burkhart; and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin; her parents; and her brother, Eugene (Tip) Niese.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Walbridge, Ohio, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior in the church narthex. Joyce will be laid to rest at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Rosary Care Center.  Arrangements entrusted to Freck Funeral Chapel.
