Josephine "Jo" Heskett

October 27, 1923 — March 15, 2022

Josephine Anna Heskett, 98, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.  She was born on October 27, 1923 in Cygnet, Ohio to Joseph and Mary (Curtin) Doyle.  Jo was a 1941 graduate of Cygnet High School.  She married her husband, Robert Heskett and together they ran Jo and Bob’s Market for many years.  Jo was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where she was involved with the Altar Rosary Society, church festivals and fish fries. She also attended St. Ignatius Catholic Church for many years. Jo lived a life of prayer, praying the rosary daily.  Jo embraced her Irish heritage by remaining strong, independent, and loyal to her family, to whom she expressed her love through her well-known culinary skills with such dishes as Jo’s Potato Salad, Chicken Paprikash, Pon Haus (Scrapple) and Sweet and Sour Cabbage. Jo enjoyed feeding her wild birds while at home and taking excursions with her best friend, Joy Vail.

Jo is survived by her children, Bobbie (John) Karl, Karen (Glenn) Sasscer, Patrick (Jill) Heskett, and Michael (Wendy) Heskett; grandchildren, Scott Poskarbiewicz, Stacey (Brian) Radde, Karli, Kanna, and Lukas (Reyanna) Sasscer, Lauren, Ashley, and Nathaniel Heskett, Nicholas (Cynthia) Vail, Bobby Heskett, Dawn Heskett, Michelle Schulten, and James Heskett; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mason, Jackson, Ava, and Charlie; sister, Patricia Bates and all the extended Vail family members.  Jo was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Heskett, her stepson James W. Heskett and her sisters Rosemary Doyle, Maxine Powers and Helen Cooksey.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Monday, March 21, 2022, from 2-7:00 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd in Oregon where the family will receive guests after 9:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.  A special thanks to the staff at Ohio Living Hospice for all their kindness and care.
