Joseph Steven Becker, age 77, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Landings of Oregon. He was born on June 2, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Anna Becker. Joe went to Sacred Heart where he was an altar boy, attended Waite High School before joining the U.S. Army, Gunnery Sargent. He married his wife, and soul mate, Carla on December 21, 1968. Joe installed high voltage towers for 25 years before joining the CSX Railroad as a Long Shoreman retiring in 2000.
Joe had the best sense of humor and had to have fun in all he did. And of course, he was great and excelled in everything too. Joe was a fanatic scratch golfer, competitive bowler, captain of his beloved boat “Carlatta Mae”, scuba diver all over the Caribbean, and always playing “his hand” in Las Vegas. Winning in darts, pool, poker, anything worth betting on he was a winner. Big OSU and Miami Dolphins fan. With declining health, he had to delve into something new- becoming quite the movie buff: westerns, war, and the oldies. His desire for new technology brought him his true escape with virtual reality; Occulus. Having fun til his final days is how we will all remember him. He will be dearly missed.
Joe is survived by his three daughters, Kelli (Randy) Coleman, Hollie (Willem) van der Hoeven and Danielle (Michael) Becker; four grandchildren, Joshua, Kristen, Willem and Alexandra, his sister, Joanna Becker, his many nieces and nephews and his precious comfort pup Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carla; and brother, John Becker.
Joseph and Carla Becker will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. where they will be remembered with a graveside service. Memorial contributions can be made to www.K9sforwarriors.org (partnering Vets with dogs from shelters) or to www.nida.nih.gov (Nat’l Institute on drug abuse).
