John Ray Wharton

John R. Wharton, 67, of Northwood, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon. He was born in Toledo on October 10, 1944 to James and Lucille (Ganyzelin) Wharton and married Joyce R. Irwin. John served our country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1963 – 1968 and received a purple heart. For over 37 years, John worked for Seneca Petroleum and in his spare time enjoyed fishing, horse racing and going to casinos.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Wharton; sons, John, Jr. (Lisa) and Jeff; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepmother, Elaine Wharton and son-in-law, Dave Hudson. John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lucy Hudson and brother, James.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 11-12 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at Noon in the funeral home.  Burial will be private.
