John Martin Szanto, age 80, of Toledo passed away Friday, January 25, 2013. He was born October 25, 1932 in Toledo to Martin and Mary (Skolla) Szanto and was a graduate of Waite High School. John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Toledo Naturalist association due to his love of birds. John was a member of the V.F.W. Hall 4906 and was an active member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
John is survived by his brother, Steve M. Szanto and was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene Szanto.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from noon-8 p.m. A Panachida service will take place at 7 p.m. that night. Funeral services will begin on Monday in the funeral home at 9:30 am. and continue on to St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in where the Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
