Captain John H. Ruby, age 92, of Oregon, Ohio passed on Thursday, October 18, 2012. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to Howard and Ida (Wadsworth) Ruby. In his youth he worked at the Toledo Zoo. John was a proud WWII Naval veteran, serving in the South Pacific. Once John returned home he was employed as a Tugboat Captain with Great Lakes Towing Co. for many years until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of VFW Post #9816, Harborview Yacht Club and was a past secretary of the Toledo Longshoremen’s union. John was an accomplished artist working in many mediums at the 577 Foundation. He was proud that he maintained his Master Mariner license into his 70’s

John is survived by his children, Christina (James) Johnson, Roberta Groll, Terry Ruby, John K. (Bonny) Ruby and Rex (Jacqueline) Ruby; stepson, Paul Olsen; grandchildren, Eric, Lindsay and Nicholas Shiple, Zachary Johnson, Amanda Downey, Jennifer and Kaylin Belair, Rex (Scupper) Groll, Hallie, Colin, Katie and Jovin Ruby; wife, Jody Ruby as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ruby; parents and brother, Robert C. Ruby.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 2-7 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m.  Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Home for the Aged.
