JOHN F. OBERWEGNER “GUNNER”
John F. Oberwegner, 77, of Millbury, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo on June 14, 1936 to Marion and Jessie (Powers) Oberwegner and married Patricia Warner. For over 32 years, John served the Oregon community as a police officer and fire arms instructor, retiring in 1992 as a Sergeant. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Marines and was past commandant with the Marine Corp League Lou Diamond Detachment, the Toledo F.O. P. 40, the Genoa American Legion and Devil Dog.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Oberwegner; his children, David (Pamela) Oberwegner, Daniel (Melissa) Oberwegner, Donna (Patrick) Getzinger, Jennifer Rayoum and Jeffrey Shuman; stepchildren, Stacy, Lisa, Regina and Sean; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathryn (Jack) Wilson, nephew, David Wilson and niece Julie Wilson. John was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Coleman James Oberwegner.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 2 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Toledo Memorial Park. There is no visitation or services on Sunday. Memorial contributions can be made to Make-a-Wish or Toys for Tots.
