John E. Mathers, 78, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on January 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 20, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Margaret Mathers. John was a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. John was a 42 year member of the Laborers International Union-Local #500 where he served as Past President and Business Agent. He attended Epiphany of the Lord Parish –St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a member of V.F.W. Post #2510. John also was a member of AMVETS-Defiance Post where he served as Past Commander in 1991.
He is survived by his children: Kathleen Mathers, Sandra Castellese, Scott Mathers, Collene Mathers, Eilene (Suzie) Mathers and Nicole Wells; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his siblings, twin brother, James Mathers, Terrance (Carolyn) Mathers, Margaret (Kenneth) Lewandowski, Annette (Richard) Greenfield and Noreen Donnal. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie; sons, Thomas and David; brother, Robert and sister, Patricia Dlugiewicz.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at Epiphany of the Lord Parish-St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 11 a.m. where family will greet guests after 10 a.m.
