JOHN CHOVAN, JR.
John Chovan, Jr., 70, of Toledo passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Czechoslovakia on January 3, 1943 to John and Elizabeth (Hazgut) Chovan, Sr. In 1948 at the age of 4, John sailed to the United States with his parents aboard the Queen Mary. He attended Waite High School where as a young man his love of football shined. He was a coach for Birmingham Elementary and enjoyed watching football rooting for the underdog in any game. He worked for L.O.F. in the bending department for 26 years, retiring in 1991 and was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ in Toledo.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce L. (Luce) Chovan whom he married January 18, 1964; children, Lori (Joseph) Nemecek, William (Jeanne) Chovan, Suzanne Chovan; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Joseph) Zemenski; and brothers, Frank (Tammy) and Larry Chovan. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yolanda Rodenhauser.
Friends and family may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon, OH on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
