Joel S. Vargo, Jr.

Joel S. Vargo, Jr., age 65, of Point Place passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2024.  He was born on April 14, 1958 in Van Nuys, California to Joel and Frances (Kozak) Vargo.  Joel was active in scouting and earned his Eagle Scout and the God and Country awards.  He was a 1976 graduate of Clay High School and was the owner and operator of Vargo’s Carryout in Oregon, Ohio before starting his catering business, Vargo’s International Catering.  Joel married his wife, Mary Lou (Weaver) on October 27, 1979.  He was a member of Calvin United Church, the Hungarian Club, and the Birmingham Ethnic Festival Committee.

Joel was a talented singer, who enjoyed listening to music, especially the Beatles. He was often found cooking a great meal or traveling with his wife, Mary Lou.  Joel loved his cats and will be dearly missed by his family.

Joel is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Lou Vargo; mother, Frances Vargo; his brother, Jeff (Stephanie) Vargo and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Vargo Sr.

A celebration of Life will be held at The Hungarian Club of Toledo 224 Paine Ave. Toledo, Oh 43605 From 1pm-5pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024.  Memorial contributions can be made in Joel’s name to Calvin United Church or to the Hungarian Club.
