Janet M. Schimming, 70, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at her home. She was born in Toledo on October 12, 1945 to Wilbert and Velta (Sandrock) Schimming and grew up on a farm in Graytown, Ohio. Janet attended Graytown Elementary School and was a 1963 graduate of Salem Oak Harbor High School. She worked for Gordon Lumber in the Oak Harbor home office for 2 ½ years, with Verd-a Ray Corp. in Toledo and then began her 32 year career with Owens Community College retiring as the manager of the bookstore.
Janet was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and was very active in her community serving for 17 years on the board of the Wood County Federal Credit Union, a long time 4-H member in Ottawa County and an active member of the German American Community volunteering for the GAF and the GBU. She also volunteered with Bay Park Community Hospital. Janet enjoyed flower gardening especially at Oak Shade Grove, sewing, crocheting, traveling and reading.
She is survived by her brothers, Norris (Paula) Schimming of Graytown and Ronald (Bonnie) Schimming of Oak Harbor; sister, Rita Busdeker of Woodhaven, MI; nephews, Tim, Scott (Ann) and Eric (Diane), Mark (Letia), Kevin (Denise), Andrew, Jon (LeAnn); niece, Stephanie (Sid) Kyrlangitses and many great-nieces, great-nephews and special friend, Bonnie. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; companion, Clarence Szozda and grandparents, Fred and Anna (Sievert) Schimming and Fred and Ada (Jess) Sandrock.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church on Woodville Rd. in Toledo where family will greet guests after 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Elliston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry St. Mission, St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Donor’s choice.
