JAMES  “JIM” A. ZIRKLE

James Zirkle, 75, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital after a long battle with COPD and heart disease. Jim was self-employed for over 45 years in the Jerusalem Township/Curtice area as Jim’s Canvas and Upholstery and later as Golden Needle Canvas and Upholstery. Known to his friends as “Old Man Canvas”, Jim took great pride in his canvas and upholstery work. Jim had the ingenuity, skills, ambition and determination to turn a quonset hut building into a complete and beautiful home. Jim enjoyed life, his family and friends, especially his “Hi-Low” poker buddies to the fullest.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, DiAnne, beloved sister Carol (Roy) Pelfrey-Coffmann, beloved children, Debi (George) Wolfe, Christopher Zirkle; step-children, Dean (Laura) Masztak, Denice (John) Masztak-Thomas and Deena Masztak; grandchildren, Barbie (Bryan) Peterson, Christopher (Emily) Sheer, Rachel, Benjamin, Nicholas and Jennifer Masztak; niece Candy Pelfrey, nephew, Michael Pelfrey; many great-grandchildren; aunts; uncles; relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Zirkle, mother, Helen Sommers and stepfather, Floyd Sommers.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Macomber Lodge, Pearson Park, 4999 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, Ohio, 43616 on Friday February 7, 2014 from noon until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Toledo Area Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
