James "Jim" Schmidlin

James Edward Schmidlin, 80, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at MercyHealth-St. Vincent Medical Center.  He was born on January 19, 1941 in Oregon Township, Ohio to John and Maude Schmidlin.  Jim was a 1959 graduate of Clay High School.  He served on the U.S.S. Enterprise in the U. S. Navy.  Jim married his wife, Patricia on June 19, 1987.    He worked for the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office for 42 years, retiring in 2017.  He was an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 123.  In his spare time, Jim loved to go fishing.   He will be dearly missed.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia; sons, James (Sonia) Schmidlin, Timothy (Tyler) Schmidlin, and Jonathan Schmidlin; grandchildren, Thomas, Eric, Renee, Theresa, Jaxon, Emily, Benjamin; 4 great-grandchildren, siblings, Judy Morgan, Timothy (Karen) Schmidlin, Cindy (Sid) Lark, and Jennifer Greene; son-in-law, Timothy Kleparek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Diana Schmidlin, Jim (Nita) Lindsey, and Bob (Tracy) Lindsey; many nieces and nephews, close friends, Billy Grames and Ray Cousino; and former wife, Connie Ashbaugh.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Laura Lynn Kleparek; siblings, John “Butch”, Bob, Mike and Becky Tefft and in-laws, Nancy and James Lindsey.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, October 31, 2021, from 2-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
