James “Jim” Albert Hodge, age 82, of Northwood, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 6, 2023. He was born to Jesse James and Daisy Mae (Bynum) Hodge in Stevenson, Alabama. James lost his parents at a very young age and he started working to support himself. He met and married Clara Janeway and moved to Florida to work. Eventually they moved to Tennessee so he could attend Tennessee Temple Bible College. Afterwards they moved to Toledo, Ohio for construction work. He started his own construction company called Hodge Construction. Jim eventually started a business with his two brothers Ray and Charlie that they named Hodge Brothers Construction. Jim has done work all around the Toledo and the surrounding areas. After retirement, he loved working is his yard, cutting grass on his tractor, planting trees and flowers. Jim loved horses and enjoyed watching horse races. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching his great-grandchildren grow up.
James was the only one left of his original family and was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James and Daisy Mae Hodge; his 12 brothers and sisters, Mertel, Kitty Belle, Mary Magdeline, Jesse Mae, Anne, Gene, Mary Madeline, Betty Grace, James Albert, Mac, Rayford, and Charlie. James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Clara Hodge; his daughter, Debbie (Angelo) Alfaro; his son, James Timothy (Linda) Hodge; his grandchildren, Jesse (Amanda) Alfaro, James (Christine) Alfaro, Joshua (Christina) Alfaro, Sierra Alfaro, Scott (Alli) Davis, and Craig Davis; and his 12 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon, OH on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Lake Township Cemetery.
