IRVIN  E. “PICK”  PICKEREL

Irvin E. Pickerel, 93, of Genoa, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Genoa Care Center. He was born October 15, 1920 in Marion, Ohio to Marvin and Margaret (Hoverman) Pickerel and was a 1940 graduate of Waite High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen J. McGrath on January 3, 1942.

He began his lifelong career with Sun Oil Co. in 1941 and on November 1942, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving our country during WWII . After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Sun Oil where he retired as Warehouse Superintendent in 1977. He was active in many company activities including the bowling league, sang in the Sun Chorus and was in charge of the Dancers. He remained active with the company joining the Sun Retirees Club and volunteering to help the elderly with their taxes. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church in Millbury where he served as Choir Director for 25 years. He was a 10 year member of the Toledo Swiss Singers and a member of the Millbury Golden Gang.

Pick is survived by his grandchildren, Mardy (Sherry) Pickerel and Tracy (Alan) Lindbeck; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Justin, and Jordan Pickerel, Zachary and Katelyn Frock, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Pickerel; son, Randy Pickerel; and brother, Norman Pickerel.

Family and friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Peter United Church of Christ, 28505 Main Street in Millbury, where the Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ.
