Howard C. Shaneck, 66, of Elmore, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born September 29, 1947 in Toledo to Howard F. and Helen M. (Screptock) Shaneck. Chuck served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as an Operating Engineer with Local #18 for 40 years until his retirement. Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post #279 in Elmore and the V.F.W. Post #2480 in Port Clinton. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time fishing and was an avid animal lover.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 13 years, Helen Shaneck; mother, Helen M. Shaneck; step-son, Cain (Amy) Poston; siblings, Toni (Carl) McDonald, Richard (Peggy) Shaneck and Robert (Brenda) Shaneck and niece, Karen Truman. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Howard F. Shaneck and uncle, Gary.
Arrangements are being handled by the Freck Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post #279, 279 Veterans Ave. in Elmore, OH on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. Services will be held at 4 p.m. with a Legion Farewell service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society in Elmore.
