Helen “Cookie” Golis

Helen E. Golis, 78, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Gardens of St. Francis.  She was born on January 27, 1943 in Monroe, Michigan to Thomas and Helen Pokornik, Sr.  Helen was a 1960 graduate of St. Ursula Academy.  She worked for Mercy Health Partners at St. Charles Hospital and Ohio Diagnostics as a Chief Technologist for 40 years, retiring in 2004.  Helen was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where she taught catechism for many years.  She also volunteered as a teacher’s aide at Jerusalem Elementary, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and coached T-ball.  She will be dearly missed.

Helen is survived by her children, David (Christy) Golis, Dennis (Jen) Golis, Diana (Todd Schaefer) Goodrich, and Donald (Cara) Golis; grandchildren, Noah, Morgan, Nick, Jonah, Katie, Tatum, Madelyn, Declan, Kallie and Sean; sister, Margie Steele and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Golis; sister, MaryAnn Phalen and brother, Thomas Pokornik, Jr.

A memorial gathering will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. and continue on with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. which will take place at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd in Oregon.  Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
